⏳ How long can you stay?
You can stay in China for up to 30 days visa-free.
The countdown starts from 00:00 on the day after you arrive.
👉 Example (China Flow Retreat):
If you arrive on September 19, your 30 days start on September 20 — meaning you can easily stay for the full China Flow Retreat (September 20–30) and still have plenty of time before needing to leave China.
⚠️ What are the requirements?
To enter visa-free, you need a valid ordinary passport and a clear purpose of visit such as tourism or attending a retreat. In some cases, you may be asked to show a return or onward ticket and accommodation details.

🛂 Not Eligible for Visa-Free Entry? (Including USA)
If your country isn’t on the visa-free list — like the United States — don’t worry. You can still join the retreat without any issues. You’ll just need to apply for a tourist visa (L visa) before traveling.
🇺🇸 For US Citizens (and others not eligible)
China currently does not offer visa-free entry for US passport holders, so you’ll need to apply in advance. The good news is that it’s a standard and straightforward process, and thousands of travelers complete it every year without problems.
📄 What is the Tourist Visa (L Visa)?
This is the most common visa for visiting China. It allows you to travel for tourism, attend retreats, events, and workshops, and explore the country. It is typically valid for 30 to 60 days per stay and is often issued as single or multiple entry.
What you’ll need
The application usually requires a valid passport (6+ months validity), a completed application form, a recent passport photo, a flight reservation or travel plan, and accommodation details or an invitation letter. For the retreat, we can provide confirmation documents if needed.
Where to apply
You’ll apply through the official Chinese visa system via the China Visa Application Center: https://www.visaforchina.cn/
US-specific portal: https://www.visaforchina.cn/globle/
⏳ How long does it take?
Processing usually takes around 4–10 working days. It’s recommended to apply at least 3–6 weeks in advance to avoid stress.
💡 Tips to make it easy
Apply early, double-check your documents, and consider booking flexible flights. If needed, reach out to us for an invitation letter to support your application.
🌿 Is it worth it?
While it requires a bit more preparation, once approved you’ll have full freedom to travel within China, including to the Wuyi Mountains for the retreat.
